The Untouched Mountain Valley of Ak-Bulak

Ak-Bulak is one of the last untouched mountain valleys in Kyrgyzstan. No ski lifts, no hotels, no resorts — just raw alpine wilderness rising high above the Issyk-Kul region near Karakol.

Ala-Too Mega Resort Project

But that’s all going to change, because Ak-Bulak is set to become the second major resort in the Ala-Too Mega Resort Project — one of the largest ski developments in Central Asia’s history. Right now, you’d have to hike or ski-tour your way into these peaks. The only visitors are backcountry explorers and a few locals. But by the time this decade is over, that silence will slowly be replaced by the sound of lifts spinning, boots clipping in, and skis carving through fresh snow.

The Transformation of Ak-Bulak Ahead

The master plan is already drawn. Between 2035 and 2040, Ak-Bulak will be transformed. It will feature 13 lifts, over 50 kilometers of ski trails, and a full resort village with space for nearly 5,000 guests.

A Future Hub for Mountain and Winter Adventure

There will be an alpine sports center, an expedition tourism base, and events year-round. This isn’t just another ski village — it’s a future hub for winter sports and mountain culture in Central Asia.

The Road to Ak-Bulak

You won’t see bulldozers here tomorrow. First, Jyrgalan will open — the first slopes should be ready by 2026, and the entire resort by 2030. Then Boz-Uchuk will be developed between 2030 and 2035. Ak-Bulak comes last. The timeline is long, but that’s what makes it exciting. If you plan ahead, you can be one of the first to ski these untouched slopes once they open, somewhere between 2035 and 2040.

By then, the entire Ala-Too area will be connected, offering around 250 kilometers of ski trails. Ak-Bulak will sit right in the middle — a wild valley turned into a world-class ski base.
