Introduction to Jyrgalan

Tucked away in the mountains of eastern Kyrgyzstan lies a hidden valley that is quietly preparing to make history. This is Jyrgalan — a place where time seems to stand still, where the air is crisp, the skies are wide open, and the snow falls deep and untouched. But this peaceful village is on the verge of becoming something much bigger: the beating heart of what will soon become Central Asia’s most ambitious ski resort project, the Ala-Too (formerly Three Peaks) Resort.

A Step Back in Time

Jyrgalan has always been remote. Originally built as a coal-mining village in the Soviet era, it has never known crowds, neon signs, or five-star hotels. But it has always had mountains — endless, towering, impressive mountains.

In recent years, a quiet trickle of adventurous travellers, backcountry skiers, and hikers began to take notice. A few guesthouses opened their doors, and snow enthusiasts discovered slopes untouched by machines, fences, or mass tourism. Here, skiing still feels wild and real.

The Vision for Jyrgalan

Now, the vision for Jyrgalan is growing. Kyrgyzstan’s government — backed by international partners — has chosen Jyrgalan as the starting point for the Ala-Too Ski Resort, a mega-project that will stretch across three mountain zones and offer more than 250 km of ski trails when complete. Jyrgalan is first — and it’s going to be special.

The Future Resort Village

Imagine a resort village built from the ground up, blending Alpine style with Kyrgyz culture. Over 49 new hotels are planned, ranging from cosy three-star lodges to luxurious five-star spa retreats. Six modern chairlifts will open access to 60 km of ski runs in the first phase alone.

And it won’t stop with skiing. The master plan includes wellness centres, family activity zones, winter parks, walking trails, restaurant streets, shopping areas, and even an ethno-village with yurts and glamping experiences under the stars.

The Unique Feel of Jyrgalan

What makes Jyrgalan truly special isn’t just what will be built — it’s how it will feel. There is a sense of space here, of silence, fresh air, and untouched nature. Planners insist the valley will grow, but grow responsibly. Buildings will remain low. Nature will stay in focus. Everything will follow modern ecological standards so that Jyrgalan doesn’t lose its soul as it opens up to the world.

Construction and Completion of Jyrgalan Resort

So, when will it open? Construction has already begun, and the first chairlifts and hotels are expected to open by the end of 2025. That means very soon, you could be carving fresh powder on slopes no one has ever skied before.

Full completion of the Jyrgalan resort is expected by 2030, with the other zones — Boz-Uchuk and Ak-Bulak — following afterward. But make no mistake, Jyrgalan will be first. And if you love mountains, snow, and real experiences, this is where you’ll want to be.
